MAF test 11 – hibernation

a step back after some hibernating time over the holidays (red line)

After a lazy holiday period with low miles and gaining 10 pounds I knew this was going to be a step back. 30 seconds per mile slower than the last few months looks like a large chunk to give up, but all is not lost. I’m not sweating it. I felt really strong through the run today and know I’ll recover quickly. Although the recovery advisor on my Forerunner recommends me resting 48 hours. Huh.

A couple of weeks of solid running and shedding the holiday pounds should have me right where I left off in late Nov/early Dec.

new watch!

I used my new Garmin Forerunner 620 for this test. (using a different watch and heart rate monitor might also have something to do with the large change on the test) So far I’m liking it, especially the easy charge and upload through wifi. The new vertical oscillation and ground contact time stats seem nice as well. I’ll have a separate post on this watch at a later date.

out of hibernation

So the rest period is over and now it’s time to get out on the roads and trails again. I have a 50k this Saturday I’m looking forward to. Pistol Ultra. It’s on a paved greenway, so should be a PR for the distance. 4:30 to 5:00 seems like a reasonable time to expect. I don’t plan on pushing it too hard.
