minimalist-running

In early 2008 I started adding some barefoot running to my training in a desperate attempt to improve my form and get rid of the injuries that had plagued me for over 20 years. The barefooting worked miracles on my form and injuries but I was not fond of the “blistering” periods I had to go through. Needless to say running on your bare feet will inevitably lead to some skin pain down the road. I am not a bare foot purist, if a shoe can retain the benefits of bare footing while protecting my tender skin, then so be it. So in early 2009 I started seriously looking around to see what was out there of minimalist running footwear. I now have several that I’ve been using, among them Feelmax, Nike Frees, Vivo Barefoots and Vibram’s. These shoes were all over the map in regards to quality and fit, with the Vibram 5 Fingers being closest to the ideal I was looking for.
So now at the tender age of 40 something years old, I can finally get into some real training and see how far and fast this body can go. Running used to be a battle, a struggle at keeping injuries at bay, now it’s just a bunch of fun. I can’t wait to get out there and hit the road.
